GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Vanessa Marcil Mourns the Death of Her Father, Peter Ortiz
Our hearts go out to Vanessa Marcil (ex-Brenda, GENERAL HOSPITAL), whose father, Peter Ortiz, passed away on Sept. 15. “We lost my father to the angels last night at 10:10 p.m.,” she wrote on Instagram with a photo of her father cooking at the stove with her son, Kassius. “‘1010’ means ‘I’m off duty, I’m going home.’ After 20 years of not speaking, we had some great tacos and some great laughs with him in the last five years. Bye, Daddy.”
A couple years ago, Marcil confided to TV Insider that she was working on a pilot for a cooking show called VANESSA’S TACO which centered around her and her father. “It’s a show about food, family, and forgiveness,” she revealed. “I hadn’t seen or spoken to my father and a lot of my family in almost 20 years, after some really unforgivable stuff went down. I had been a bullheaded a—hole for a really long time, so it was a very big deal for me to forgive him. Now we’re opening two restaurants together — one in Texas, one in Calfornia — and doing a TV pilot about it. That’s my life. Things turn around in the most interesting ways.”
Marcil shared another photo of herself and her father shooting the show that was taken by her fiancé, MC. “MC loved my dad and father loved MC more than he loved me. Fly in peace, Daddy. Pete Ortiz, Jr. is making tacos and pico in heaven.”
Our hearts are with Marcil and her entire family during this difficult time, but it’s wonderful that she and her father were able to reconnect so that they could enjoy some happy years together before he passed.
