John Stamos Developing Series About His Experience on GENERAL HOSPITAL!

After getting his start in show business as Blackie Parrish on GENERAL HOSPITAL, actor John Stamos is preparing to return to the glory days of soap operas in the ‘80s in a new series for Amazon! The untitled drama was originally set up at Uni TV a year ago, but Deadline is reporting that Amazon has now landed the development deal from Stamos and producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.

The series is inspired by Stamos’ early years on GH where he found fame as Blackie on the hit daytime drama. Written by DAMAGES’ Adam Stein, the show will explore the glitz and glamor of the soap world in the ‘80s as it follows a young man who becomes the next big thing on television’s most popular soap.

However, when news of Stamos’ project was originally announced last year, soap fans immediately felt like they’d heard this pitch before. Jason Thompson (Billy, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS) was upset to see that Stamos’ idea was uncomfortably similar to the recent pitch made by his former GH castmate and friend Kimberly McCullough (ex-Robin) based on her experience on GH in the ‘80s called HEY DAY.

“Little too familiar if you ask me,” he tweeted. “I think we let Deadline know. HEY DAY has been years in the making and it’s basically a word for word pitch.” McCullough was touched by the sentiments of Thompson and all the fans who rushed to her defense online.

Either way, a series set in the glory days of ’80s daytime dramas sounds like a lot of fun for longtime soap fans, so stay tuned because we’ll be sure to let you know when you can see either project once they’re completed!
