Kelly Monaco Reveals Why She Chose to Work at GENERAL HOSPITAL

When PORT CHARLES was canceled in 2003, Kelly Monaco (who played Livvie on the GENERAL HOSPITAL spin-off before creating the role of Sam) barely had a chance to react to the news. “I got the call that the show was being cancelled and I think I cried for like five seconds,” she revealed at a fan event. “It was pretty messed up. I fortunately had a call moments later with an option to pretty much take my pick!”

Despite learning that several soaps were interested in working with her, Monaco knew exactly where she wanted to be. “I thought GH was the best show on daytime, so I called Brian Frons, who was head of ABC Daytime at the time,” she shared. “I don’t think [then-headwriters Charles Pratt Jr. and Robert Guza Jr.] really liked that too much… but lo and behold, Sam was created! So I’m very grateful!”
