Today marks the GENERAL HOSPITAL return of Ilene Kristen as Ava’s mother, Delia. The actress will be playing her iconic RYAN’S HOPE character in scenes airing for the rest of the week. “Tune in… my General Hospital shows will air Feb 25, 26, 27, 28,” Kristen announced on Facebook.
During the actress’ last visit to GH, Delia only got to interact with Sam and Silas — but a long-awaited reunion with daughter Ava (played by Maura West) is ahead this time around! “It was fantastic,” Kristen says of working alongside West. “Maura is fantastic. They were fun scenes. It was like playing tennis with somebody. I think both of us are pretty good tennis players!”
Kristen, who’d most recently played ONE LIFE TO LIVE’s Roxy, adds that she “kind of knew” following her October appearance that Delia would be back again. “It wasn’t a total surprise to me because of the way they wrote it the first time,” she shares. “It led me to believe that they would be having me back. I didn’t know when.
“It was just fabulous seeing [executive producer] Frank Valentini,” she continues. “He’s doing great. And Ron [Carlivati, headwriter] is doing great. I’m really happy for them.”
After this week, is the door still open for a third return? “I would think so,” says Kristen. “I would like it to be a little more than ‘just hop over.’ I think I could add something to the show.”
Plus, Kristen would get to give Delia back to the fans who still approach her to this very day about their love for the character. “It’s a tremendous compliment to me, because it was so long ago, for people to very specifically know a lot about Delia. People were fanatical about RYAN’S HOPE and Delia is such a part of their vocabulary. So it’s great that I’m playing Delia on GENERAL HOSPITAL. It’s odd and very ironic, yet it works.”
