Soaps Preempted January 20 for Presidential Inauguration

Soaps are often interrupted by breaking news, but sometimes the networks schedule news coverage ahead of time and can plan for the preemptions. And on Wednesday, Jan. 20, your favorite fictional daytime dramas will all be taking the day off for the real-life drama of the inauguration of President Joe Biden.

THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, THE BOLD & THE BEAUTIFUL, and DAYS OF OUR LIVES will be nationally preempted on that day. However, while GENERAL HOSPITAL will also be preempted, if you happen to live in a time zone where the soap is broadcast, it will be an encore airing of the Dec. 18, 2020 episode where Sonny and Julian have their final confrontation on the bridge. So don’t worry if you feel a little sense of deja vu if you tune in and see GH is on!

Since these are national preemptions, fans don’t have to worry about looking online or on-demand to catch up — no one is going to miss a single episode because they’re not airing on Jan. 20 at all. And when you tune in on Thursday, Jan. 21, things will pick up right where they left off on Tuesday. Just make sure your DVRs are all set!
