The New Face Of Kate Howard!

When GENERAL HOSPITAL welcomes Kelly Sullivan to the cast as Kate Howard starting the week of September 12, headwriter Garin Wolf says that the storyline will be “focusing more on the Connie Falconeri [angle]” — ie, Kate’s real moniker that she left behind. “Connie is the real woman and Kate was the mask. Everything Sonny does and is doing is based on what happened in that neighborhood at that time. That’s where Sonny the gangster was born. There were two women there that watched him being born — Connie and Olivia.”

Kate/Connie plays a big part in Sonny’s future, as she reluctantly gets involved opening a few doors for him. “It’s going to get really, really, really interesting!” previews Sullivan. “Yes, I’m a returning character, but yet, what I bring is a hard strength and ferocity to her. She’s hard-edged. With each scene I’m given, I learn more about her strengths, but she’s also a very lonely woman. She doesn’t let many people in. As much as she fights, there are some people that break through that wall. When they do, it’s extremely vulnerable and exposing for her.”

Although Kate tries desperately to turn off her attraction to Sonny, it just is not happening. One of the reasons — Maurice Benard (Sonny)! “It’s so incredible to work with Maurice because he has this way that he looks at me,” Sullivan explains. “I can’t look at him that much because he sees through me and into my soul. He knows Kate and he sees through that facade.”

That inability to disconnect from Sonny could present a very big problem for Kate. “It’s like, don’t invite in the vampire if you don’t want to get bit in the neck,” laughs Wolf.
