Avery Kristen Pohl Teases Esme’s Secrets on GENERAL HOSPITAL
As soon as Esme Prince appeared on GENERAL HOSPITAL, fans were eager to find out who this devious young woman is and what she’s really up to in Port Charles! And while Esme is a newcomer in town, portrayer Avery Kristen Pohl is a newcomer to soaps! “I had never even watched an episode of one,” she admitted to Soap Opera Digest. “At first, it was a little overwhelming, but I’m definitely getting into the swing of things and I’m having such a fun time.”
Even though the young actress isn’t a soap fan, she still knew she was working in the big leagues when her first day on the set had her sharing scenes with daytime legend Genie Francis (Laura)! “Nick [Chavez, Spencer] was telling me, ‘She’s Laura, from Luke and Laura,’” Pohl recalled. “I was like, “How do I know those names?’ And then I realized, ‘Oh, it’s only the biggest soap opera moment ever!’ So that was super-cool and Genie is such a sweetheart.”
Esme was introduced as Spencer’s previously unmentioned girlfriend, which naturally put her in direct conflict with Trina, who was developing a crush on the teenaged Cassadine. But Pohl revealed that her initial screen test was actually opposite Eden McCoy (Josslyn). “Eden was so great to work with immediately,” she praised, “and we just had some very fun banter and chemistry right off the bat.”
Since she’s been working with Spencer to stalk Ava and drive her away from Nikolas and even out of Port Charles, Esme is clearly up to no good. But just how bad is this particular bad girl? GH fans have already been wildly speculating about her true identity coming up with theories like her being Kiki back from the dead with plastic surgery to get revenge on Ava, Nelle with a new face, or even the daughter of serial killer Ryan Chamberlain! Pohl remained tight-lipped about any details but admitted she’s loving exploring this new character.
“When I was given the initial character breakdown, I was told she’s charming and intelligent on the outside and cool and menacing underneath,” Pohl confided. “I think that ties everything about Esme up in a nice little bow! We’ll see more about her backstory as we continue to film, but she’s definitely one to watch out for. I don’t think anyone should trust her, ever. She is just so fun to play! I enjoy every second of it.”
