Cameron Mathison Finally Knows Who He’s Playing on GENERAL HOSPITAL

Tags:

Fans have been eagerly awaiting any new information about Cameron Mathison joining the cast of GENERAL HOSPITAL, and it turns out, so has the actor! But first, he has a new Hallmark movie that he has to finish shooting before he can make the trip to Port Charles! “I’m up in Canada,” he reported to future castmates Steve Burton (Jason) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) on an episode of their podcast, That’s Awesome! “I’m about to shoot a Hallmark movie. I’ll be back in early June.”

When co-host Burton asked if that was when the actor would be starting work on GH, Mathison admitted he wasn’t exactly sure. “I’m trying to figure that all out,” he confessed. “I knew zero. I didn’t even know character name. I’m not even kidding. Zero until two days ago. Two days ago I found out some information. I can’t tell you. I’m very excited.”

During their conversation, the Canadian native revealed he began working as an actor in the mid-90s and only scheduled his audition with ALL MY CHILDREN as a way to write off the cost of his trip to New York. But it was a case of being in the right place at the right time and an audition led to a screen test which led to Mathison landed the role of Ryan Lavery which he played from 1998 until the soap’s cancellation in 2011.

“It’s been 10 years,” Mathison said of his return to daytime. “I know lots has changed.” When Burton asked how many scenes he recalled taping on a busy day on AMC back then, Mathison admitted, “Honestly, in the 30s… up to 40 items would be a long day.” Burton admitted that he had done 78 scenes today, and last week he shot a total of 12 shows. “I don’t actually mind that,” Mathison mused of shooting 30-40 pages of script in a day. “Five days in a row of it, I can’t even imagine.”

Anderson and Burton assured him he’d be fine and get up to speed in no time… that is, once he actually reports to the set! And unfortunately, details regarding the character Mathison will be playing in Port Charles remain tightly under lock and key. “I cannot say a word,” he said apologetically. “But I’m thrilled. I’m thrilled.”
