Ever since Franco died on GENERAL HOSPITAL, Cameron has been consumed by his grief and anger, and unable to find the words to say goodbye to his stepfather. But on the March 23 episode, the teenager managed to find his voice — and sang a beautiful ballad about losing Franco at Curtis’ new nightclub that left mom Liz, grandma Laura, pal Trina, Curtis, and Portia wiping away tears.
Written by Cameron’s portrayer, William Lipton, the gritty, folksy tune, “We Weren’t Done With This Yet,” puts to melody all of the sorrow and melancholy the teen has been feeling since Franco’s death, like the memories the family will now never get to create and the aching emptiness that has been left behind.
Taking to Twitter after the GH episode aired, the young actor thanked viewers for the outpouring of support and praise for the tune, and shared his appreciation to the soap’s team for trusting him with the song. “Thank you [executive producer] Frank Valentini, [music supervisor] Paul Glass, and everyone at General Hospital for allowing me the opportunity to write and perform this song, ‘We Weren’t Done With This Yet,’” wrote Lipton. “And thank you all for every single kind and warm message you have sent me! It truly means the world!”
“We Weren’t Done With This Yet” is available for download at SoundCloud, where the 16-year-old singer/songwriter gave some insight to his song. “[It] was written for ABC’s General Hospital to commemorate the recent death of Franco Baldwin, the father figure to my character, Cameron Webber,” Lipton explained. “However, this song is meant to extend further than that. Many of us have felt the heartbreak of losing a loved one in many different ways. This song expresses the unfairness and anger associated with an unfinished relationship.”
