June is Pride Month, and some GENERAL HOSPITAL fans are wondering where the soap’s LGBTQ+ characters have been hiding. Well, beginning on Thursday, June 24, Dr. Terry Randolph will be back on the canvas in a brand-new storyline! “Can’t wait!” gushed portrayer Cassandra James on Instagram.
James became the first transgender actress to portray a transgender character on a daytime soap when she joined the cast of GH in June 2018. Introduced as an old friend of longtime character Elizabeth Webber, Terry is an oncologist who has been involved in some of the medical storylines on the soap like when young Oscar Nero battled cancer. Recently, she’s just been helping to support her old BFF Liz, but now the soap has new plans for the character.
“She’ll be fighting for an important position at the hospital,” GH executive producer Frank Valentini told Entertainment Weekly. “I think it’s important to portray members of the LGBTQ community in a way where they’re just like everybody else. They want jobs, they want to get promoted. They want to fall in love. They have problems, they get sick, they have victories and defeats just like everybody else.”
James isn’t the only one excited about her new storyline, some of her GH castmates joined in in the comments. “Yes!” cheered Katelyn MacMullen (Willow). Marc Anthony Samuel (Felix) posted a series of applause emojis, and Tamara Braun (ex-Kim, now Ava, DAYS OF OUR LIVES) declared: “Congrats, hon!”
With Cyrus off the board and Britt’s recent disappearance, the hospital could be looking for a new chief of staff. Keep watching GH to see if that’s the important position that Terry decides to fight for, and especially if she gets what she’s after!
