Cassandra James Opens up About Her Return to GENERAL HOSPITAL
It’s been a while since viewers have seen Dr. Terry Randolph on screen, but Cassandra James took to the social media platform Threads to share that she’s back taping at GENERAL HOSPITAL again. “First day on set since October,” she wrote. “Almost half a year.”
James made history when she joined the cast of GH back in June 2018 as the first transgender actress to portray a transgender character on a daytime drama. But as a recurring character, Terry isn’t seen nearly as frequently as others on the soap. In fact, the last time viewers saw James on screen was back in the Nov. 14, 2023, episode when Terry informed Finn that he and the hospital were being sued for malpractice.
During her time on GH, James has also played Olympia in multiple episodes of the award-winning Max series SORT OF, Zoe in the independent film A Christmas Sunset, and guest-starred opposite former co-star Vinessa Antoine (ex-Jordan) in an episode of her Canadian series DIGGSTOWN. Being a working actress, James is aware that long gaps between jobs are unfortunately part of the job.
“Choosing gratitude because I know most actors have waited longer,” she admitted of her wait to return to GH. “Just imagine if the job you trained to do, that you’re good at and you love was constantly demonstrated to be ephemeral. That having a second job was not only normalized but systematically suggested. When you come home and stream our work on your TV, artists are wondering why we rarely feel valued enough to make our job a living.”
Given that she’s co-chief of staff at GH (and best friends with head nurse Liz), Terry really should be seen much more than she is. Hopefully, this is just the start of many more appearances to come!
