Catching up With GH’s Brooklyn Rae Silzer
Longtime fans were thrilled when Brooklyn Rae Silzer made a surprise appearance as Emma Drake on GENERAL HOSPITAL just in time to celebrate Thanksgiving with Anna and Robert. And just like the viewers who watched the young actress grow up on screen since her July 2011 debut, the cast and crew of the soap are always surprised to see how adult she is every time she visits!
“Every time I’m there, everyone just like, stops and stares at me and they’re like, ‘What?! How are you so big?’” Silzer confided to Soap Opera Digest. “It’s kind of funny because it happens every time. I mean, there are pretty big gaps in between when I visit, so everyone thinks I get bigger each time.”
The actress doesn’t have too much time for work these days as she admits she’s kept pretty busy with her studies. “I’ve been applying for nursing school,” Silzer revealed. “That takes up most of my time.”
She also confessed that pursuing a career in medicine was definitely influenced by her time at GH. “Because ever since I started, I’ve known I wanted to be a nurse, I think since I was six years old,” Silzer mused. “I always said, ‘I want to be a nurse when I grow up,’ and it just stayed with me and I’ve become more inspired as I’ve been doing volunteer work throughout my high school years.”
Silzer is hoping to go to college in California and stay local enough that Emma can continue to return to Port Charles more often in the future. Especially since she’s enjoyed how her character has continued to develop off-camera. “It was cool to play a smarter character and to [find out] she’s working in a lab, since that’s something I obviously want to do in real life,” she said. “She’s not that different, but she has evolved from when she was little.”
