In the two years since Ryan Paevey left GENERAL HOSPITAL, Nathan’s former portrayer has become a Hallmark-Channel favorite. As such, he can frequently be found in Vancouver, where many of the cabler’s movies are made. With more on the way for 2020, “I’m probably gonna spend about as much time in Canada as I am in the US,” he told Soaps In Depth. “I’m like half-Canadian at this point.”
Hot on the heels of his wildly successful Christmas At The Plaza comes his Valentine’s Day entry, Matching Hearts, which premiered on Feb. 8. It stars Paevey as Daniel, a successful entrepreneur who “became known as Mr. Stay Single,” he explained, “because his advice to budding entrepreneurs is that if you want to succeed in business, take your social life out of [the equation].”
That mantra makes him the target of ambitious Portland, OR, matchmaker Julia, who hopes to boost her rep by managing to hook him up. “We loosely agree to work with one another, and she sends me out on all these dates,” said Paevey, speaking in character. “And I find that maybe I’m less interested in the people that I’m being set up with than I am in the person who’s setting me up.”
Meanwhile, having recently sold his software business, Daniel has opened a new pet-adoption center. It’s there that Julia falls hard for a certain canine whom Daniel might be able to use when negotiating with her. “I’m kind of a liability on set when there’s animals. I have a hard time focusing,” Paevey admitted. “It’s like, ‘Where’s Ryan? Oh, he’s laying down in the corner over there with five dogs.’ It was super fun!” In fact, he reveals, eagle-eyed viewers might even recognize some of his adorable, four-legged co-stars from Hallmark’s Mr. Darcy franchise.
Also ahead, the actor could be returning to BET’s recently-renewed GAMES PEOPLE PLAY, on which he recurred as Bryce Daniels, a former law-school friend of basketball wife Vanessa. “Season one’s cliffhanger ended with her being pregnant and not knowing if it’s Bryce’s child or her husband’s,” Paevey reminded. “So from a storyline standpoint, it’s looking like Bryce might come back.”
Between acting projects, the star enjoys going on adventures like last summer’s skydiving excursion in Hawaii. Next, he’ll likely be hitting the road to break in his own idea of a perfect match: a custom-built motorcycle from London. “It’s a monster machine we’ve been working on for a little while!”
