Does GH’s Esme Have a Heart? — Avery Kristen Pohl Speaks Out!

Tags:

Esme has been nothing but trouble on GENERAL HOSPITAL since she first showed up, but recent episodes have occasionally shown a softer side to the schemer as she plots to do whatever she can to protect the baby she’s carrying.

While getting pregnant with Nikolas’ baby could have been leverage for Esme to manipulate the Cassadine, it backfired when he just locked her up in a room in an unused wing of Wyndemere. However, while Esme has been icy cold to most of Port Charles, her unborn child seems to have thawed her out ever so slightly.

“I think she really does care about that baby,” Avery Kristen Pohl told Soap Opera Digest of Esme’s true feelings. “It might simply stem from the selfish point of view that yes, this baby can help her, but also, this baby is someone that she can love unconditionally and that will unconditionally love her, which she has not experienced in her life.

“So I think that’s a really big thing for her,” she continued. “Plus, she’s been stuck in this tower for so long, it probably feels like years to her and she’s talking to this baby and to her father, who’s just a figment of her imagination — those are her companions at the moment.”

Since being locked up at Wyndemere, Esme has been desperate to escape, and hopes that each plan that she concocts will be the one to get her out of there. “I love the tower set,” Pohl admitted. “I think it’s so fun. But I’m ready for a change of scenery — and I’m pretty sure Esme was ready for a change of scenery about 20 episodes ago!”

But what will Esme do if she finally escapes Wyndemere and gets out of Nikolas’ clutches? Keep watching GH to find out!
