Fans got excited when GENERAL HOSPITAL star Maurice Benard (Sonny) announced on social media that he would be appearing on GOOD MORNING AMERICA on Friday, April 1. The date totally made sense, given that the day will mark GH’s 59th anniversary. However, it turns out that he’ll actually be on GMA on Wednesday, March 30!

“I made a mistake on the date,” Benard admitted in a follow-up video he posted to Twitter. “My GOOD MORNING AMERICA is tomorrow between 7:00-7:15 a.m. Pacific Time. I said it was Friday, I don’t know… Doesn’t matter. It’s tomorrow. I’m gonna be talking about mental health, Bipolar Day, GH, State of Mind… just talking about stuff. Life. Sorry for the mix-up, but tomorrow morning, GOOD MORNING AMERICA.”

The actor then segued nicely into singing a little of the classic tune “Tomorrow” from Annie before telling his fans to “Be there or be square!”

With the 59th anniversary of GH’s premiere falling on Friday, it’s only natural that Benard would be chatting about the long-running ABC soap where he has played Sonny Corinthos since August 1993 (winning three Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor over the years).

Benard has also been an outspoken advocate for mental health awareness, being very open and public about his own diagnosis and treatments for bipolar disorder. In July 2020, the actor also launched his popular State of Mind series on YouTube where he speaks about mental health issues either on his own or with other people, including many of his GH co-stars. His most recent episode was an incredibly powerful conversation with Tyler Christopher (ex-Nikolas), who opened up about his struggles with addiction and nearly losing his life.

So be sure to tune in to GOOD MORNING AMERICA on Wednesday morning on ABC to see what Benard has to say!
