Emma Samms Is Recovering From Another Bout of COVID
Having contracted COVID-19 during the early days of the pandemic in March 2020, GENERAL HOSPITAL alum Emma Samms (ex-Holly) has been dealing with the debilitating effects of the virus ever since. Called Long-COVID, ongoing symptoms of the virus can persist for months, affecting the lungs, heart, and brain and potentially leading to severe health issues for the patient. Now, the actress sadly announced that she came down with the virus for a second time.
On Twitter, Samms shared a photo of an at-home COVID test showing a positive result. “So, what I thought was just bad PESE (Post-Exertional Symptom Exacerbation) is actually another round with COVID and I tested positive this morning,” wrote the former GH star on June 15. “Antivirals aren’t available. Any reinfected Long-COVID folks out there who can tell me what I might expect?”
PESE symptoms include extreme fatigue or exhaustion that can happen even with minor physical or mental exertion. The malaise can be disabling, as it reduces a person’s ability to function. After Samms made her plea for help, followers offered up their personal experiences in being reinfected with the coronavirus, ranging from needing an inhaler to make breathing easier to lingering chills and fever, and sore muscles.
“Thanks, everyone, so much for your kind and very helpful responses,” Samms shared in an update on June 21. “I’m still feeling rough and still testing positive, so hiding away in the bedroom and keeping everyone safe.”
During her convalescence, Samms added, she was receiving some TLC from hubby Simon McCoy. “Excellent 5-star room service being provided by Simon,” she wrote. In response to his wife’s praise, McCoy, a British television personality, quipped that he is “married less than a year… and already banished to the spare room.”
Thankfully, Samms is now on the mend. On June 23, she shared a photo of another at-home test — this time showing a negative result. “Hurrah!” she cheered.
Good news, indeed! We wish Samms well and hope that she bounces back quickly after this second bout of COVID. And hopefully, one day she’ll finally be able to return to GH to finish telling the story of Holly’s kidnapping!
