Emma Samms Opens up About Her New Husband Simon McCoy
When GENERAL HOSPITAL alum Emma Samms (ex-Holly) married British news presenter Simon McCoy on Oct. 9, fans may have been surprised, but the actress admitted she didn’t really see it coming either! “For somebody who has said for years, actually decades, ‘I’m never gonna get married again, I’m never gonna live with anyone again,’ that just speaks to how lovely he is,” Samms confided during an interview on a recent episode of the Soap Opera Digest podcast. “He’s incredibly kind. My children really genuinely love him.”
And it is clear that McCoy genuinely loves his beautiful wife as well. “He’s been incredibly lovely to me with my Long COVID,” Samms revealed. “Very understanding and supportive. He doesn’t mollycoddle me. But likewise, he doesn’t make fun of it, either, or diminish it. So somehow, that very fine line of looking after somebody, he’s got it just right.
“Of course, we were together before I got ill,” she quickly added with a chuckle. “Because obviously, if that’s the only dynamic that works, that’s not right, either. But no, it’s very good news for me, personally. And I’m as surprised as anyone that this is where I am.”
Samms explained that it was quite nice to fall in love with someone who appears on television but is not an actor was a kind of uniquely perfect match. “To find somebody who’s not in the entertainment world but who’s in the public eye is a lovely thing,” she declared. “That’s a very magical sort of sweet spot, there.”
Of course, because McCoy is not an actor, he was a little startled when he helped Samms tape her security camera scene that aired on GH back in September 2020. “The funniest thing of all was that Simon helped me set up the camera and everything,” she recalled. “But he’s not from the world of acting. We closed the door and I said, ‘Alright, we’ll do the scene now and I’ll come out when it’s done. So he waited on the other side of the door.
“I did the scene, opened the door, and his face was just white,” Samms added with a laugh. “He was just so traumatized by hearing the little performance begging to be let out! He kept wanting to open the door, he told me. I think that’s a good sign. But bless him. He was really surprised at acting.”
Unfortunately, because Samms remains “very much in the depths of Long COVID,” as she put it, it doesn’t seem like she’ll be returning to GH to wrap up Holly’s storyline anytime soon. But as she’s said before, as soon as she’s feeling up to it and can travel to Los Angeles, she’ll be back!
