If you were wondering if Holly was leaving GENERAL HOSPITAL, unfortunately, yes, Emma Samms has wrapped her latest run on the soap in the May 18 episode. After a brief return in the fall of 2022, the actress managed another short stint that ran from April to May 2023.
Although a storyline was planned back in 2020, Samms was only able to tape a brief appearance on a video monitor that aired in September of that year (which she shot in a bedroom of her home!) because she was still suffering severe symptoms of Long COVID. Thankfully, she was able to return to the GH studio to film again in October 2022 and then again in April 2023.
Once Victor Cassadine had been dealt with, Holly hoped to stick around Port Charles and rekindle her romance with Robert, but that proved impossible. “Robert and Holly are such different people now,” Samms explained to Soap Opera Digest. “She knows that Robert loves her, but the question is, would it work?
“I suppose most relationships are very complicated,” she added, “but theirs has complications that most relationships don’t have! It was very emotional; there’s a lot of bittersweet to Robert and Holly’s relationship, that’s for sure.”
Diane probably won’t be sad to see Holly leave Robert and Port Charles, but her many fans will be. “I am so, so grateful for their support and enthusiasm,” Samms declared. “It means the world to me.”
Once she was well enough to return to GH for a short stint, Samms was happy to find that not only was she able to work again, the soap was willing to work with her and the limitations of her ongoing Long COVID symptoms. And while the actress’ life in England prohibits a long-term return to Port Charles, there may yet be more brief returns in the future, so stay tuned!
