GH Alum Erik Valdez Shared a “Very Special” Moment on SUPERMAN & LOIS!

The CW recently launched SUPERMAN & LOIS, the latest television adaptation about the famous superhero and his journalist love — and the series was renewed for a second season before the second episode of the new drama even aired. And as if that wasn’t news enough to celebrate for one of the show’s stars, Erik Valdez (ex-Trey, GENERAL HOSPITAL), the fact that his song was used in the second episode certainly was!

SUPERMAN & LOIS follows the iconic couple as Clark Kent and Lois Lane struggle with all things adulting and being working parents to two teenage sons in today’s society. The ensemble cast includes Valdez as Smallville Fire Chief Kyle Cushing, who is married to Clark’s childhood bestie, Lana Lang.

Ahead of the debut season’s second episode, the GH alum — who played Kristina’s late husband, Connie’s ill-fated son with mobster Joe Scully — teased a “fun fact” on social media. “Tonight’s episode is very special to me, personally,” he wrote on Instagram. As the episode aired, Valdez eventually revealed to his followers that the song playing in the background during the barbecue scene at the Cushing’s house was his own! “Not Kyle me,” he shared in an Instagram story. “But me, me.”

In additional Instagram story slides and on Twitter, Valdez shared his personal story behind the country tune “Love Me Like Home,” which he wrote for his then-girlfriend, radio personality Candice Lopez. As he explained, back when he was planning to propose to Lopez in 2015, he wrote and recorded the tune with the help of some friends. He even shared a home video of the proposal itself, when he popped the question to Lopez while they listened to the song in the car!

In the years since, Valdez and his now-wife have shared the song with family and friends, but never in a public manner. “Over time however,” he wrote, “there was this itch to share it with a broader audience. Which brings me to right now… Here I am, sharing it with you all through a show I happen to be a part of!”

And now, “Love Me Like Home” has been released for the world to hear! “It’s a glimpse into our lives, both past and present, and pays homage to our home state, Texas,” Valdez wrote. “I hope you enjoy it!”

You can listen to “Love Me Like Home” here, and then keep tuning in to see Valdez on SUPERMAN & LOIS every Tuesday, or stream on The CW app!
