When Evan Hofer was cast as Dex on GENERAL HOSPITAL, it was originally meant to be a short-term role. But the talented young actor made quite an impression on executive producer Frank Valentini and passed his chemistry test with Eden McCoy (Josslyn) with flying colors, so he was quickly offered a contract with the soap!

Hofer got the big news while he was preparing for his first scenes with Stephen A. Smith (Brick). “He’s such an incredible man and such a great example,” he declared on the Soap Opera Digest podcast. “He’s such a great fan of the show, too. And as a sports fan, I watch his stuff.

“But I’m getting ready for my first scenes with him and we’re about to roll and Frank pulls me aside and tells me, “Hey, you know, you’ve shown us some great layers and great stuff we could never imagine. How do you feel about sticking around a little more permanently?’” he continued. “And I was speechless and went, ‘Yes… sounds good… yes… yes sir… yes sir.’ And he goes, ‘Cool. I’m gonna call your agent.’”

Of course, there was no time to celebrate his success because there was still a job to be done! “I have to go act and I’m like… one second,” Hofer chuckled at the memory. And of course, it was the easiest decision for him to make, even on the spur of the moment like that. “I think I thought about it for point-five seconds,” he confessed.

Once he had a moment, Hofer quickly called his mother to share the good news and then followed up with his manager. “She’s like, ‘Do you love your time there? Are you having fun?’” he said. “And I go, ‘I’m having the best time of my life.’ She goes, ‘Perfect. I’ll make it happen.’

“And it’s true,” Hofer insisted. “I hate days off. If I could sleep [at the studio] I would. I would spend every day there if I could. I am so grateful and just love being there and love everyone there so much. You’ll never hear me complain about going to work.”

So keep watching GH to see him work and see what happens next!
