Daytime newcomer Evan Hofer made his GENERAL HOSPITAL debut back in May as Dex, an eager go-getter who was intent on landing a job with Sonny. Shortly thereafter, it was revealed that Dex was actually working for Michael as a plant in the Corinthos organization!

In a new interview with Soap Opera Digest, Hofer confessed that he wasn’t even aware of the plot twist with his alter ego’s true intentions up front. “I really just knew that he wanted to work for Sonny,” Hofer shared, adding that a week after he started on the soap, GH executive producer Frank Valentini filled him in. “Frank came up and told me he’s actually working for someone else, and I was like, ‘Oh, okay, great, great. Well, I’ve got to start working on my double agent stuff!’”

Hofer added that as soon as he got the script that revealed Michael and Dex’s connection, he knew how he wanted to play the scene. “My first instinct was that I had to create another layer for the character and kind of go, ‘Okay, so we’ve seen what he’s like with the big boss, Sonny; what is he like with the guy who’d already hired him and is slightly more comfortable with?’” the actor explained. “I wanted to show the fans that Dex was kind of full of it with Sonny, initially, and what his real motives are.”

Three months in, Hofer is still getting to know his character — and is looking forward to delving into Dex’s history! “I get the script about six or seven days ahead of time, I start reading and going, ‘Oh, interesting! The plot thickens with Dex!’” he said. “I think as we move forward, we’re going to learn a lot more about Dex’s backstory — how he got here, why he is the way he is — and I’m excited for that, too.”

So stay tuned, because there are plenty more twists and turns to come!
