GENERAL HOSPITAL Alum Annie Wersching Dead at 45
Sad news for soap fans. GENERAL HOSPITAL alum Annie Wersching (ex-Amelia) died of cancer on the morning of Jan. 29 at the age of 45. “There is a cavernous hole in the soul of this family today,” her husband, actor Stephen Full, said in a statement to Deadline. “But she left us the tools to fill it. She found wonder in the simplest moment. She didn’t require music to dance. She taught us not to wait for adventure to find you. ‘Go find it. It’s everywhere.’ And find it we shall.
“As I drove our boys, the true loves of her life, down the winding driveway and street,” he continued, “She would yell “Bye!” until we were out of earshot and into the world. I can still hear it ringing. Bye, my Buddie. ‘I love you, little family…’”
At the beginning of her acting career, Wersching joined the cast of GH in 2007 in the role of Amelia Joffe, a woman out for revenge on Sam. Amelia’s wanted to avenge the murder of her father, Bill Monroe and blamed Sam, who had married him to steal his fortune. Though in reality, Sam had killed him in self-defense. While in Port Charles, Amelia also had a short-lived romance with Sonny.
After exiting the soap, Wersching found success in primetime, starring as FBI Special Agent Renee Walker for the seventh and eighth seasons of 24. She also played Julia Brasher on BOSCH, Lily Salvatore on THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, Emma Whitmore on TIMELESS, Leslie Dean on RUNAWAYS, and Rosalind Dyer on THE ROOKIE. One of her final roles was playing the Borg Queen on STAR TREK: PICARD, just 10 years after her very first role in an episode of STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE.
Wersching was diagnosed with cancer in 2020 but continued to work. She is survived by her husband and their three children, Freddie (12), Ozzie, and Archie (4). A GoFundMe has been set up for her children. Our thoughts are with Wersching’s family and friends during this difficult time.
