GENERAL HOSPITAL Is Preempted on Monday

Due to the total solar eclipse that will pass over North America, television coverage of the rare celestial event will be extensive, and unfortunately for soap fans, it means that GENERAL HOSPITAL will be preempted on Monday, April 8.

ABC News and Nat Geo are teaming up for a live two-hour special titled ECLIPSE ACROSS AMERICA, which is scheduled to kick off at 2 p.m. ET. Which means that GH will be preempted in many areas for the special programming.

While fans never like it when their favorite soap is preempted, at least this is a planned national preemption, so there will be no new episode of GH airing on Monday. As opposed to a local preemption, where viewers in the affected area would have to seek out that day’s episode online or on demand so they can stay caught up with everyone else who was able to watch it normally.

Because GH is preempted completely on Monday, April 8, there will be no new episode uploaded to ABC.com or Hulu later that evening. Because no new episode aired anywhere that day. And if you happen to live in an area where GH actually does air after the special report, you might feel a sense of deja vu because you’ll be treated to an encore episode to fill the time slot.

So enjoy the solar eclipse (safely!) on Monday and then be sure to tune in on Tuesday, April 9, when the action and drama picks up right where it left off in the Friday cliffhangers!
