GENERAL HOSPITAL Preempted Nationally Today

Soap fans had gotten used to the hearings interrupting their favorite shows recently, but at least those we knew about ahead of time. Unfortunately, President Biden testing positive for COVID has caused news coverage to break into the daytime lineup and apparently the interruption is not brief enough that ABC has decided that the July 21 episode of GENERAL HOSPITAL will be preempted and air on Friday, July 22.

“Due to ongoing breaking news coverage,” the soap tweeted, “today’s scheduled episode of GH will air tomorrow.”

On the plus side, this has now become a national preemption so fans won’t have to worry about seeking out the episode online in order to stay caught up on all the drama. That’s what usually happens when the news breaks in for just a small chunk of the hour.

And if GH does happen to air on Thursday in your area, don’t be confused when you see a rerun. ABC always airs an encore episode during these kinds of situations to fill the time slot. But since no new episode aired, there’s no reason to go looking on ABC.com or Hulu this evening to watch because it didn’t actually air.

Instead, just tune in Friday, July 22, and the drama will pick up right where it left off at the end of Wednesday’s episode. And with Esme plotting her next scheme, Portia fearing the worst for Trina, Austin meeting with the mystery man, and so much more, you’re not going to want to miss anything. So also make sure that if you record GH on a DVR box that you double-check that it’s set to record on Friday because preemptions always cause scheduling errors!
