GENERAL HOSPITAL Preempted Nationally Today
Unfortunately, as all soap fans know, breaking news can interrupt their favorite shows at any time. And the death of Queen Elizabeth II is causing regular daytime programming to be preempted for coverage of this world news event, causing the Sept. 8 episode of GENERAL HOSPITAL to be preempted. Thursday’s regularly scheduled episode will now air on Friday, Sept. 9.
“Due to ongoing breaking news coverage,” the soap announced on its social media channels, “today’s scheduled episode of GH will air tomorrow.”
While the interruption is of course upsetting to many viewers, at least all they’ll have to do is tune in the following day. If a soap is only preempted in some time zones, often the network will simply air that day’s show in the unaffected areas and then fans who missed out will have to watch the episode online so they don’t miss anything. (Although if GH does happen to air in your area, don’t be confused if things look familiar because ABC traditionally broadcasts an encore episode in that situation.)
So don’t go looking for Thursday’s episode of GH on Hulu or ABC.com in the evening because you won’t find anything. ABC is holding it until Friday when it can air in full and no one has to worry about missing any of the drama. But if you happen to record GH on your DVR, definitely make sure you double-check that it’s set to record on Friday and next week because preemptions like this play havoc with the scheduling on those devices!
