Genie Francis Is Leaving General Hospital... But She'll Be Back!

As many fans suspected, that phone call will help facilitate Laura leaving GENERAL HOSPITAL as actress Genie Francis takes some time off to enjoy her summer vacation!

Soap Opera Digest is reporting in their new issue that Laura is leaving Port Charles to handle a family emergency as Francis takes her annual break. So that call about her mother, Lesley, that left Laura so worried, looks like it will be the plot twist that ushers the character off the canvas for a little while.

Viewers shouldn’t worry themselves, however, because this happens every year. Remember in the summer of 2021 when Laura and Martin went into witness protection to hide from Cyrus? Laura might not have been enjoying herself, but Francis certainly had a great time on vacation.

Francis took over the role of Laura Webber from Stacey Baldwin back in 1977 and made the character a daytime icon, especially once paired with Anthony Geary’s Luke Spencer. The actress has come and gone multiple times over the years, but has remained a part of Port Charles. In fact, not only did Francis celebrate her 45th anniversary at GH earlier in 2022, when the soap celebrated its 15,000th episode, but that particular show focused on Laura!

So while Laura may be off the canvas for a time dealing with a new crisis, there is still plenty of drama in Port Charles that she’ll have to come back and deal with. Victor Cassadine’s not going to take care of himself! Plus, Laura is mayor — she’s not just going to abandon her job like that!
