Because Genie Francis has become a daytime star for playing Laura on GENERAL HOSPITAL, some fans might have forgotten that she was actually a recast. Since her 1977 debut, the actress has experienced many memorable moments, so we asked her to look back and pick a high point from her life in Port Charles so far.
“The high point for me was Scott and Laura putting the star on top of the Christmas tree,” Francis recalled to Soaps In Depth. “People still occasionally mention that to me from a bazillion years ago.”
Of course, given that Laura has decades of history and countless storylines in her history, that couldn’t possibly be the end of her answer!
“Gosh, there were so many things with Tony Geary (ex-Luke),” Francis added. “But in the hospital room with him after the rape was a real high point. I had so many happy times during my 30s when I was at GH. I loved working with Jonathan Jackson (ex-Lucky). When it was just the three of us, that was so fun, because it wasn’t just Luke and Laura. It was Luke, Laura, and Lucky, and he was every bit as strong as we were. It was great. I loved that.”
Another memorable storyline was her 2006 return to the soap that landed her the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress the following year. “And then when I came back and Laura had been in a coma and had that brief awakening, that was a real high point for me,” Francis declared. “That’s when I finally got my Emmy.”
Here’s to many more memorable moments to come!
