Lifetime is producing another series of V.C. Andrews movies, and this one will star GENERAL HOSPITAL alum Donna Mills (ex-Madeline)! “Exciting project coming soon,” she teased on Instagram when news of her casting broke.
This new series is based on the Dawn Cutler series of books centered around the character of Dawn Longchamp, played by Brec Bassinger. After having her simple, comfortable life torn away from her, Dawn is thrust into the Cutler family ruled by her wicked grandmother, Lillian, played by Mills. Naturally, mysteries and dark secrets emerge that reveal the dark curse hanging over the Cutler Family.
The cast also includes New Kid on the Block Joey McIntyre as Dawn’s singing teacher and Broadway star, Fran Drescher as an out-of-work-actress who is the house mother at the performing arts school Dawn attends, and Jesse Metcalfe (Miguel, PASSIONS), who portrays Dawn’s adoptive father.
The book series was started by Andrews and completed by ghostwriter Andrew Neiderman following her death. The movies will follow the books, beginning with Dawn, followed by Secrets of the Morning, Twilight’s Child, and finally, Midnight Whispers. The final novel in the series, titled Darkest Hour, is a prequel to the Cutler series, and is currently in development.
GH fans remember Mills as the manipulative and scheming Madeline Reeves, the character she originated in March 2014. So the actress is well cast as a manipulative and domineering grandmother in this new V.C. Andrews series of Lifetime movies!
Given that the films are only just getting production underway, there’s still no official premiere date for the first one in the series, so keep checking back here at SoapsInDepth.com for updates as more information is announced!
