GH Stars Promise “So Much Good Stuff” Coming Up!
From the moment that GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Nina found “Mike” in Nixon Falls and kept Sonny’s whereabouts hidden from his family, the soap’s fans have been divided over how they feel about the couple together. While some viewers liked the shakeup to Carly and Sonny’s relationship by “Mike’s” blossoming romance with Nina, others refused to accept that the mobster belonged with anyone else.
That rift widened after Sonny returned home to Port Charles and Carly learned that her husband and Nina had fallen in love. But what most fans can agree on is that Sonny sleeping with Nina was the final nail in the coffin of his marriage to Carly. But in a video message to the GH audience shared on Feb. 8, Maurice Benard (Sonny) and his two leading ladies, Laura Wright (Carly) and Cynthia Watros (Nina), promise that things are far from over when it comes to this love triangle!
The short video was posted to Benard’s Instagram page and based on the wardrobe that the three Daytime Emmy winners are wearing, the message was filmed during the same time as they taped the episode when Carly walked in on Sonny and Nina in bed. With his two leading ladies by his side, Benard raved about his co-stars. “I just want to say these are, in my opinion, the two best actresses,” he confessed.
“You’re going to get in trouble!” Wright laughed, but Benard pressed on with his praise of the two talented daytime powerhouses. “No, it’s my opinion,” he insisted. “Other people can like whoever they want. These two are the best actresses.” Proving that the feeling is mutual, Watros gushed, “Aw, we love you,” before she leaned over to give her co-star a kiss on the cheek, sending Benard into a fit of laughter.
Benard has been an ardent champion of Sonny’s storyline with Nina since the beginning, frequently posting his support of Watros on social media. “I will say this Carly/Nina storyline is a blast and one of my favorites in 28 years,” he wrote on Twitter on Feb. 7, echoing that sentiment in his Instagram video. “I love working with them,” he said. “We’ve got great story [ahead].”
Jumping in, Wright promised that there is “so much good stuff coming. And we’re having so much fun.” And knowing that the viewers have such strong feelings — both positive and negative — about Sonny’s relationship with Nina made Carly’s portrayer happy. “We love that you love/hate it because that’s what you want on a daytime soap opera,” Wright declared. “It’s a perfect triangle.”
Before the trio, signed off, Watros chimed in, agreeing with her on-screen nemesis. “That’s right,” she said, bringing the video to a conclusion. “Keep watching, guys!”
