GH’s Joshua Benard Reveals the Truth About Adam

When Joshua Bernard made his debut as Adam on GENERAL HOSPITAL, it was just for one episode where the kid taunted Josslyn about her and Cameron’s sex tape. Then he came back for another to apologize, and later even more as he now attends Port Charles University with Joss and is also pre-med. And as Josslyn has gotten to know more about Adam and his struggles with his overbearing parents, so have the viewers… and so has Benard himself!

“A lot of what he is going through and what I understand about him, I’ve had to draw from other people that are close to me that I know,” the young actor admitted to Soap Opera Digest. “He’s not really a character that I can draw from a lot from my own experience. My dad [GH star Maurice Benard (Sonny)] has told me, ‘If you can’t use yourself, use the people around you.’ And what Adam is going through is actually very similar to someone I know.

“But I’m glad the character is having an arc to him,” Benard continued. “When he first came on, he was kind of a weirdo, talking to Joss about her sex tape and stuff. Every time I was on before, people were like, ‘He’s kind of crazy.’ But I feel like now, the character is growing as a person and becoming more of who he really is. To me, a kid doesn’t act like the way Adam was acting with Joss [in the beginning] unless he’s got a lot of pain going on, or bad stuff at home. So I kind of always had sympathy for him.”

With all the chaos in Adam’s life, Josslyn has become a port in a storm for the troubled young man. “I would say that probably for the first time, she’s someone that he feels doesn’t judge him,” he mused. “I think it’s that plain and simple. When he’s around her, he doesn’t need to act a [certain] way, he doesn’t need to be anything else.”

Of course, Adam’s crush on Josslyn can’t hold a candle to her feelings for Dex, so could her rejection send Adam onto an even darker path? “Keep watching because it gets better and more interesting and a lot more juicy!” Benard promised.
