GH’s Scarlett Fernandez Recovering After Surgery

Tags:

Please join us in wishing GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Scarlett Fernandez (Charlotte) a very speedy recovery! The actress announced on Dec. 5 that she was recovering after having a non-ossifying fibroma removed from her ankle.

“Tyler the tumor has been evicted!” she enthused. “Thanks to my amazing surgeon, Dr. Bell, and all the wonderful nurses at St. Luke’s.” She also added a hashtag to joke that fake hospitals are better than real hospitals, showing that she’s still keeping her sense of humor!

Non-ossifying fibromas are common benign bone tumors found in children. Most show no symptoms and are often discovered when an X-ray is taken for another reason and the tumor is spotted. NOFs usually require no treatment as the tumor will ossify over time, filling in with normal bone as the child grows up.

NOFs require surgery when the tumor is large, or if the patient is experiencing pain, and unfortunately for Fernandez, that was the case with hers. Thankfully, most patients are able to resume full activity three to six months after surgery. But that includes sports and other strenuous activities, so hopefully, the talented young actress can come back to work at GH much sooner than that!

Fernandez originated the role of Charlotte Cassadine back in October 2016 and although she exited in December 2021, returned in July 2023 for a new storyline. And with Valentin’s daughter currently brainwashed by Victor into trying to get Anna out of her Papa’s life by any means necessary, there’s a lot more drama to come!
