GH’s Stephen A. Smith Publishes His Memoir, ‘Straight Shooter’

Another GENERAL HOSPITAL actor has written a memoir, and this time it’s Stephen A. Smith! The sports television personality who makes appearances in Port Charles as Brick, is the author of the recently published Straight Shooter: A Memoir of Second Chances and First Takes where he chronicles the challenges he overcame in childhood to work his way up to his current success at ESPN.

“I want them to be inspired,” Smith said of the readers of his memoir during an appearance on GOOD MORNING AMERICA. “I want them to be motivated. I want them to understand that you’re going to go through peaks and valleys in your life. You’re going to have moments where you think everybody’s against you, nobody is supporting you. It’s all a lie. There’s always somebody willing to extend a helping hand. It’s not about whether or not you get knocked down. It’s about your willingness to get back up.”

Maurice Benard, who plays Brick’s boss, Sonny, on GH, couldn’t resist poking a little fun at his good pal, comparing Straight Shooter to his own memoir, Nothing General About it in a humorous Instagram video clip. “I know you want me to buy your book,” the actor joked while standing in a bookstore. “But the thing is, I don’t read. The last book I read was the New York Times bestselling Nothing General About it. But since you’re gonna come on State of Mind, I’m here at the bookstore and I’m gonna buy your book.”

Of course, as he looks at the shelf, Benard cracks: “Thirty bucks? Thirty bucks? Mine was like, 23 bucks! Come on, Stephen A. Thirty bucks?”

Another friend of Smith’s who also happens to be a huge daytime star is Eric Braeden (Victor, THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS), who penned his own memoir, I’ll Be Damned: How My Young and Restless Life Led me to America’s #1 Daytime Drama back in 2017. “My good brother, Stephen A. Smith, the one and only, is publishing his autobiography!” he enthused. “I am very curious to read it! Never known anyone more honest and straightforward than S.A.S.!”

Now you can read Straight Shooter and put it right on your bookshelf next to Benard’s Nothing General About It. But be sure to leave space for any more memoirs that other GH stars decide to pen in the future!
