GENERAL HOSPITAL Headwriter Previews What’s Next for Liz!
When Liz checked herself into Shadybrook on GENERAL HOSPITAL, that was not the end of the storyline that began with her mysterious fugue states causing her to “haunt” herself with memories of Franco. No, that was really only just the beginning, because after she checked herself out, it’s become clear that she still remains haunted by her past and there’s much more going on beneath the surface.
“Elizabeth Webber has been a part of the fabric of GH for 25 years,” co-headwriter Dan O’Connor noted in a recent issue of Soap Opera Digest. “And during that time, there is still a big, untold story of her past and that is the explanation of why she is so distant from her immediate family. The memory that she is unlocking is the beginning of being ready to finally tell that story.”
With GH juggling so many different storylines at once, some have fallen by the wayside, and during a lack of screentime for Liz at one point, portrayer Rebecca Herbst had to assure fans he hadn’t been fired! In fact, Aug. 1 marked the 25th anniversary of her debut on the soap, which makes this the perfect time to tell a big story featuring her character.
“The full backstory of Elizabeth and her family that has been unexplored all this time has always been a story that we have wanted to tell and we have been planning to tell,” the scribe explained. “And we are finally in a position where we could unpack all of this and make this a Liz-centric story in time for such a milestone year for her on the show.
“Rebecca Herbst has been doing a fantastic job playing the emotion and the mystery and the suspense of this story,” O’Connor declared. “And we can’t wait to see her knock it out of the park as we explore the depths of [Liz’s] soul and her history.”
So stay tuned to GH to watch Herbst continue delivering Emmy-worthy performances as the truth about her strained relationship with her parents is finally revealed! There are plenty more twists and turns to come!
