On Dec. 7, 2005, Jason Thompson made his daytime debut as Dr. Patrick Drake on GENERAL HOSPITAL. And now, 17 years later, as he stars as Billy Abbott on THE YOUNG & THE RESTLESS, the actor remains grateful to the fans who have supported him over the course of his career.

“So just a little note,” Thompson said in a video he posted to Instagram. “I saw a little post that 17 years ago Dr. Drake made his arrival at General Hospital where Jason Thompson stepped onto the set of that incredible show 17 years ago. And I am just reminded of how grateful I am that I’m still working in this genre.

“I spent 10 years at GH,” he continued, “and it was amazing. And I still talk to people there. I am still reminded of all the amazing storylines that I was a part of. And for the last 7 years, I’ve been with an amazing group of people over at Y&R on CBS and just… I’m just so lucky. So, so lucky. And most of that goes back to the fans. So thank you so much to all the fans of daytime. My heart goes out to you. I would not be here if it wasn’t for you. So thank you for this. Here’s to another 17 more years, huh?”

GH Patrick Robin
Patrick and Robin eventually became the fan-favorite supercouple known as “Scrubs.”ABC/Adam Larkey

Patrick was quite a womanizer when he was first introduced to GH, though he eventually grew up and settled down with Robin and they welcomed a daughter, Emma. “We are so lucky to have you!” enthused Kimberly McCullough (ex-Robin) in the comments. “I’ll never forget that day.”

And Emma’s portrayer, Brooklyn Rae Silzer, expressed: “I am so lucky to have learned everything from you. Thank you for always taking the best care of me. Miss you!” To which Thompson replied: “I learned just as much from you.”

During his career in daytime, the talented Thompson has earned seven Daytime Emmy Award nominations, finally taking home a trophy for Outstanding Lead Actor in 2020 for his work as Billy on Y&R. And we’re sure he’ll be treating viewers to more award-winning performances in the years to come!
