When Kathleen Gati was cast on GENERAL HOSPITAL, Dr. Obrecht was only supposed to be a two-day gig. “I did my job — played the Swiss-German head of the psychiatric hospital where Robin was — and I went home,” she recalled to Soaps In Depth. “Then a few months later, they asked, ‘You want to come back?’ Then they gave me a daughter, then they gave me a son and then they gave me a hospital to run! It was fantastic.”
Obrecht has since lost Nathan and that prestigious job. She’s also been betrayed and abandoned by Britt… but nothing seems to stop villainous Mutter from landing on her feet! “My seven-year anniversary was this summer, ” Gati grinned. “And that means a lot. I’m grateful to everyone at GH and to fans for all the love and support. What’s fun is some viewers ask why I’m so evil, and others say, ‘I love it when you’re dark!’ So when I get a script, I’m excited about whatever I get to do.”
