Social media can be a great way for soap stars to stay in touch with their fans by sharing what they’ve been up to in both their personal and professional lives. Unfortunately, social media also allows the fans to comment on the stars’ posts, which often brings out the worst in people as they hide behind the anonymity of their keyboards. GENERAL HOSPITAL star Kelly Monaco (Sam) is on Twitter and Instagram, though she has not been particularly active on either platform of late.
On Oct. 5, the actress posted a photo of herself lying back and looking a little tired while jokingly captioning the image: “Is it Friday yet?!” Before that, her last Instagram post was over a year ago, celebrating gal pal Kirsten Storms’ (Maxie) birthday belatedly on April 12, 2020.
“I dip out on Instagram because people are rude, bullies, and feel the need to put people down,” Monaco shared by way of explanations in her Insta comments. “It’s gotten way out of control.”
Over on Twitter, Monaco last posted on Oct. 1 when she celebrated her 18th anniversary on GH (22nd with ABC, since she was on sister soap PORT CHARLES first!), and before that, she tweeted a few times back in March when she was commemorating taping around 3,000 episodes as Sam McCall.
Naturally, the Daytime Emmy Award nominee had lots of support from her loyal fans in her Instagram comments, with plenty of people urging her to ignore the haters and reminding her how beautiful and talented she is. Including celebrity pal Carmen Electra, who declared she’s “always hot.”
Some Hollywood stars have actually deleted their social media accounts entirely after being attacked by cyber-bullies, but thankfully that hasn’t proven to be the case for Monaco… at least not yet. Hopefully, those bullies might stop to think that these celebrities are real people with feelings just like them before they do any more damage.
