Laura Wright Opens up About Carly and Sonny’s Relationship on GH
When Sonny chose Nina over Carly on GENERAL HOSPITAL, it not only upset lots of viewers, but Carly became pretty hostile towards the pair as well! However, recently things have begun to thaw between Carly and Sonny as they continue to adapt to their new normal.
“I think Carly saw how close Sonny got to almost being put in prison by her kids and she was like, ‘Guys, I get being upset, no one is more of a scorned woman than me, but we can’t have him arrested!’” Laura Wright (Carly) explained to Soap Opera Digest. “But it’s a fine line for Carly to want to take, to want him protected and to make sure he’s okay, and also, for it not to hurt. He’s the first person she’d scream at, but the first person she’d take a bullet for.”
Having started a new romance with Drew and a new business venture taking over Kelly’s from her mother, Carly is now feeling stronger and more independent. And that’s transformed her dynamic with her ex. “Well, he’s happy for her that she’s got this new place [to run] and she wants him to know that she’s good,” Wright mused. “There’s some stuff coming up where you see some nice moments, some real Carly/Sonny moments of how they feel about each other when they’re not fighting or yelling at each other.”
Of course, not everyone is happy about the continued connection between Carly and Sonny, and we’re not talking about Nina! Josslyn continues to butt heads with her mother over her continued desire to protect Sonny. “She, of course, hates it,” Wright admitted, “because he didn’t look out for us and protect us. He left us! But her stuff isn’t just ‘I hate Sonny.’ This is a young woman who is like, ‘He broke up our family.’ He broke her heart. I think it’s good soap. It’s all complicated and full of hypocrisy and conflict and contradiction — and that’s human beings in a nutshell!”
But while many GH fans would love for this thaw between Carly and Sonny to lead to a rekindling of their relationship, whether or not that happens remains to be seen. (Though a lot of viewers insist it’s inevitable!) Voice your own opinion on the matter in our online poll below and stay tuned to see what happens next!
