Laura Wright Previews Carly and Drew’s Future on GENERAL HOSPITAL
Jason’s return has turned Port Charles upside down, and it has also affected Carly and Drew’s relationship on GENERAL HOSPITAL. With his twin brother back in the picture, Drew realizes that he can’t compete with him in Carly’s eyes and decides that it might be better if they called it quits now before it gets any worse. Could this really be the end of Carly and Drew?
“Look, she loves Drew and she wants everything to work out,” Laura Wright told Soap Opera Digest of Carly’s feelings. “He’s comfortable, he’s good. He felt safe and he did the right thing and he’s the best guy. And now, when he’s doing these other things… that’s a bit difficult for her. She’s still all-in, but she’s concerned because she can’t fix the trauma, she can’t fix what he went through in prison and how angry he is.”
Carly found love with Drew but after Nina turned them in to the SEC and he was sent to prison for insider trading, things just weren’t the same. He came out of Pentonville with a darker edge and hell-bent on taking revenge on Nina. Having just lost her mother, Carly wanted to put everything behind them and start fresh, but he didn’t seem able to do that.
Now, with Jason back, Carly has gone right back into protective mode, defending her BFF against everyone’s accusations that he’s part of the assassination attempts on Sonny and the one who shot Dante. Knowing Carly will always put Jason first, he decides to cut his losses, but honestly, she has more important things to deal with than their breakup.
“As much as I’m sure that she’s affected by Drew leaving, she gets it” Wright admitted, “One hundred percent of her attention is on Jason. He’s alive. What does he need?”
However, the actress is quick to add that Carly and Jason’s connection is not romantic. “It’s like family, you know?” she said. “So the whiplash [of their split] is not so hard because it’s all about Jason. And this is where Carly, I think, is so strong. She thrives when she goes into protective mode with the people she cares about — whether they like it or not!”
