Laura Wright Reveals Why Getting Married “Terrifies” Jason and Carly
Jason and Carly’s engagement on GENERAL HOSPITAL caused quite a stir both in Port Charles and with viewers, but the bride-to-be’s portrayer is more enthusiastic than most about the storyline twist! “I loved it,” Laura Wright declared in an interview with TV Insider. “You’re talking to the person who loves to play everything they say can’t be played. I love it. I love working with Steve [Burton, Jason]. We’re all about telling story and how much we can lift it up and be as great as we can be and honor what the fans love about the show and the script. And I think we do that.”
The problem with marriages of convenience in soap operas is that sometimes they end up causing real feelings to surface — just ask Willow and Michael! “I think what scares them both about this arrangement is the fear of their feelings that they’ve always had for each other that had turned into a friendship but was based on when they fell in love years ago when Sarah Brown was Carly,” Wright explained. “Which makes me love the Jason/Carly relationship even more because it came from really an honest love that Carly had for Jason when no one else knew how to accept him.
“She did because she never knew his story and she just accepted him and loved him for who he was,” the Emmy-winner continued. “And I love that. I think that’s so incredible. So I think that they’re terrified of those feelings that they put to bed — no pun intended! — that they put to bed years ago and let their friendship really be the strength. So I think that absolutely terrifies them.”
Adding another level of complication to things is that not everyone in Port Charles is aware of exactly why Jason and Carly are tying the knot. Although viewers are, and many of them are still vehemently against the union, so the truth might not help smooth things over very much!
“And not to mention,” Wright added, “Carly loves Sonny and Jason is in something with Britt, so it’s not like this is convenient. Carly’s mourning and Jason was falling, so it’s not convenient. It’s necessary. For the safety of their family and existence in Port Charles.”
