Laura Wright Shares Fond Memories of a Classic Soap Wedding

After three decades in daytime, Laura Wright has countless memories of her time in the industry. And while the actress may have gotten her big break on the much-missed ABC soaps LOVING and THE CITY, and she’s currently starring as Carly Corinthos on GENERAL HOSPITAL, it was a photograph from her time on CBS sudser GUIDING LIGHT as Cassie Layne that brought back these particular fond recollections.

“I’ll always cherish this time in my life,” she said of the behind-the-scenes snap of her in full wardrobe while shooting her character’s first big soap wedding in 2000. “Cassie and Richard’s wedding on GL. I was two months pregnant with my son and daily growing out of this dress. A dress that was designed and created by the amazing Shawn Reeves!”

Yes, that’s the same Shawn Reeves who got his start working on ANOTHER WORLD in the late ‘90s and currently serves as costume designer for GH! So while he got to dress Wright for multiple weddings on GL, Reeves is now doing the same for her Port Charles alter ego. And he’ll do the same again when Carly walks down the aisle with Jason! 

Wright also joked that she was outgrowing that particular wedding gown at the time because she was already pregnant with her son, John, who will be turning 21 this December. Boy how time flies!

Wright’s chemistry with co-star Bradley Cole made Cassie and Richard Winslow one of GL’s premiere supercouples in the early ‘00s. And their royal wedding on the island of San Cristobel where Richard reigned as prince was a lavish affair full of romance, drama, and intrigue. We hope Wright’s sharing of this photo brought back as many fond memories of the beloved CBS soap for you as it did for us!
