Laura Wright Shares Her Struggle With Weight Loss and Body Image

Tags:

Working in show business can play havoc with an actor’s perception of themselves, and GENERAL HOSPITAL star Laura Wright (Carly) took to social media to open up about her own struggles with her weight and body image. She shared an old photo of herself taking a breather during what looks like one of those classic ABC versus CBS charity softball games where she would have been on the ABC team since she was playing Ally on LOVING in 1993. (She’d later switch sides when she joined the cast of GUIDING LIGHT as Cassie in 1997!)

“This 23-year-old was ashamed of her body and thought if she could lose 10 more pounds she would be perfect and worthy of love,” Wright wrote. “She wasn’t focused on the things she loved, just on being skinny enough to be loved,” Wright continued. “Every day, all day long, these were my thoughts.

“30 years later I’m finally discovering how beautiful life is,” she continued. “How grateful I am for a body that has been with me and taking care of me for 51 years. And how much fun life can be when you decide to live! Not sure why I decided to share this today. I just got this picture last night and wanted to hug this young girl and tell her how amazing she is.”

After hashtags like “#selflove,” “#livebabylive,” and “#YOUarebeautiful,” Wright credited the snap to photographer Steven Bergman, who must have been going through some old photo files and shared this wonderful image with the actress he’s been photographing since her soap career began with LOVING.

Naturally, the comments on her post quickly filled with praise and admiration from friends and fans alike. “You are so beautiful,” declared her television daughter Eden McCoy (Josslyn, GH). Wright has always been very open on social media, sharing her health and fitness strategies with her fans, and hopefully, these words of wisdom have the desired effect on everyone who reads them.
