Lydia Look Opens up About Her GENERAL HOSPITAL Fans

Selina Wu made her first appearance on GENERAL HOSPITAL back in August 2015, and after those initial handful of episodes, portrayer Lydia Look returned in 2017 for another visit. But it was when Ms. Wu came back to the canvas in August 2021 and the actress began recurring more often that she learned just how amazing soap fans can be.

“Never have I met fans that are so intense,” Look declared during an interview on The Stage Door Show. “And they’re incredible fans. Coming from a world where I’m kind of a… I’m like a guest star. I’ll come hit a show, NCIS, or whatever, and I’m off, right? So I never get fans that are so dedicated in following me in doing something or a particular role.

“Never have I met that kind of intensity,” she continued. “And I think it only exists in daytime. Because I think a daytime audience are a very unique bunch of people. They take their daytime viewing pleasures very seriously. And I really respect that.”

Look is also pleased that GH viewers have taken to her character of mobster Selina Wu. “I have a lot of women fans,” she marveled. “And when they see me, this five-foot-three, one hundred pound… Asian girl and they’re thinking… Because representation really does matter. I have to tell you. And it’s such a breath of fresh air to see somebody like me calling all the shots on the show.”

The actress also appreciates that soap fans span the generations and the tradition of following your favorite daytime dramas still continues even now. “You have granddaughters, daughters, and grandmothers all at the convention,” Look declared. “And that’s really beautiful. They come as a family. I just recently had a podcast experience with a 15-year-old girl who hosted us. And she did it because she told us she started watching with her Nana. So she’s a big GH fan. And I felt that to be so refreshing because she’s 15. You know, our fans are not usually 15 years old. But to have a 15-year-old fan, I’m like, “Yeah!” So that was really great.”
