Marcus Coloma Opens up About Returning to GH

Recasts are relatively common on soaps, and actors even come back to reclaim their roles from replacements. GENERAL HOSPITAL’s Nikolas Cassadine has been recast multiple times since his introduction in 1996, most recently with Adam Huss replacing Marcus Coloma. But given the opportunity, would Coloma return to Port Charles?

“I would,” the actor told Soaps.com. “I’ve thought about it so much. And I think the bottom line is that, to me, the absolute star of GENERAL HOSPITAL is the fans. They’ve had different actors, they’ve had different directors, different producers, but the thing that has never changed is the fans.”

Coloma took over the role of Nikolas in October 2019 when the character returned to the canvas, and fans really took to his portrayal of the Cassadine prince. So they were understandably disappointed when Huss — who had previously stepped in as a temporary recast for episodes in 2021 and 2022 — took over in January 2023 to wrap up that particular storyline. And when Nikolas popped up again that summer, it was still Huss in the role.

“If I felt like the fans were unanimously reaching for me to come back, then I would go back for the fans,” Coloma admitted. While he enjoyed his time on GH, the actor declared, “that would be the only reason that I would personally want to go back.”

Even if Huss is still playing Nikolas, there’s no reason Coloma couldn’t be brought back on the soap in a different role. Heck, Roger Howarth has played three different characters on GH and Michael Easton is on his fourth! That’s the magic of daytime — pretty much anything is possible!
