Mark Lawson Says Goodbye to GENERAL HOSPITAL
When the Floating Rib exploded on GENERAL HOSPITAL, it was clear that there were going to be some casualties, and unfortunately, one of them was Mark Lawson’s Dustin. “Actors know this moment is bittersweet,” he shared on Instagram with a video he took of himself looking sad as he removed his stage makeup and blood. “Job well done, but leaving a set full of like-minded, inspired people.
“Playing Dustin was a joy,” Lawson continued. Every day on set was a gift, as were Emme Rylan (Lulu), Kirsten Storms (Maxie), Briana Lane (Brook Lynn), Dominic Zamprogna (Dante), Wes Ramsey (Peter), Lisa LoCicero (Olivia), Maurice Benard (Sonny), Bradford Anderson (Spinelli), and others that don’t have social media! Edit: How could I have forgotten to mention William deVry (Julian) and James Patrick Stuart (Valentin)?! Apologies, gents.”
As a big fan of horror movies, Lawson admitted that he worked hard to deliver a performance that would really make Dustin’s death hit home for viewers. “I really wanted that scene to hit in a way that isn’t pretty or clean,” he tweeted. “Those are the moments in some of my favored genre films that stick with me. I wanted you to see Dustin fighting to get back to Lulu, or at the very least, make Dante swear the oath to be there for her. It was [part of] Dustin’s devout chivalry and my own need to make it uncomfortable for the viewer. You watch to have an experience, right?”
After making his daytime debut as Brody on ONE LIFE TO LIVE, Lawson joined the cast of GH in July 2019 as one of Lulu’s blind dates and soon became her new beau… at least until her ex-husband, Dante, came home and complicated things! ‘Thank you, GH,” he declared. “Honored to be part of television history not only on this show, but to be among the first actors back to work in town post-COVID. The set always felt safe, and I was proud to be in front of the camera in such a strange time. Thank you for everything. Stay soapy.”
In the comments to his Instagram post, Lawson’s castmates and friends shared their best wishes. Lane offered up a row of heart emojis to show the love while Storms said, “You’re truly the sweetest, Mark.” Parry Shen (Brad) posted: “Kick-ass run! Glad we were able to get to know each other through this.” And Ramsey told him it was “such a pleasure working together, man.”
Fans can also see Lawson in the new comedy, 1 Night in San Diego, currently available for rent or purchase from your favorite streaming sites. And naturally, we’ll keep you informed on Lawson’s future projects so you can keep enjoying his performances in the future!
