Maura West Reveals How Ava Really Feels About Austin on GH
Ava has found herself between a rock and a hard place on GENERAL HOSPITAL. After believing she’d murdered Nikolas, she found herself caught by Austin, who offered to help cover up her crime. Now, their bond has grown more complicated as they’ve found themselves stuck with each other as his cousin, Mason, blackmails them into doing his bidding!
“When somebody knows a dark secret, in her words, you either have to kill them or you’re sort of at their mercy,” Maura West (Ava) mused to Soap Opera Digest. “I mean, those are her options. And she’s sort of at his mercy. And at the cousin’s, too — she’s at Mason’s mercy.”
Ava and Austin have moved beyond partners in crime to become something more as they suddenly fell into bed together and are now navigating a twisted new relationship. “Yeah, she was not expecting that,” West admitted of their night together. “She’s not ready for that relationship. She’s not sure she wants that relationship! But, you know, there’s something irresistible about that Roger Howarth that comes through into Austin!”
But while GH viewers are enjoying the chemistry between West and Howarth (who were castmates on CBS sudser AS THE WORLD TURNS for years playing Carly and Paul, respectively), it’s not yet clear if Ava and Austin’s relationship has any kind of real future. Are his feelings for her genuine or is he just using her to further his own ends?
“He’s still kind of a mystery to her,” West admitted. “She doesn’t really understand who he is. Why is he the way that he is? How is he beholden to Mason? All that stuff is still a mystery to her and there is something about that, the mystery of it, that’s kind of a turn-on, for sure.”
