Maurice Benard Said the Most Beautiful Words at His Daughter’s Wedding
Congratulations to GENERAL HOSPITAL star Maurice Benard (Sonny), who added a new member to his family when his daughter, Cailey, married her husband Carlos. But even better, the proud father was the one who officiated the ceremony! “Never in my life did I think I would marry anyone,” the GH actor admitted on Instagram. “Especially not one of my daughters. Marrying Cailey and Carlos was an honor and a privilege, not to mention very sweet.”
Because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it was a particularly intimate ceremony held at home with the majority of the guests joining in via Zoom for a virtual wedding party. But the bride looked absolutely beautiful in her cream-colored lace dress and held a bouquet of pink and white flowers. The groom wore a deep blue suit and no tie in keeping with the casual ambiance of the event. Wooden signs reading “bride” and “groom” can be seen behind them on the wall.
“I’ve already started getting emotional,” Benard admitted as be began reading his speech. “When Cailey was born, one of the first things I remember when she was a little girl is she just had a ton of hair. And she was absolutely stunning. She’s been tough-minded, a little stubborn, very intelligent. And she was a Mama’s Girl. If I had to do things over I would have done things more so she would be a bit more of a Daddy’s girl.
“And then one day she brought home a guy,” he continued with a warm smile. “His name was Carlos. And we thought he was mute because he didn’t talk for like, ever. I said, ‘Cailey, what’s up with Carlos?’ She said, ‘You’ve got to get to know him.’ I’m like, ‘Honey, it’s been six months.’ So then one day, he started opening up and we started figuring out who the true Carlos is inside of him. And who Carlos is inside of him is somebody who is a hard worker, an honorable man, and one thing I can tell you a hundred percent, he’s gonna have my daughter’s back and we will love him like a son.”
Although Benard’s voice cracked with emotion at the end, and his eyes brimmed with tears, the quick-witted actor made sure to brighten the mood by joking that it was the end of his speech and telling the audience they can clap now! We thank Benard for sharing this beautiful family moment and we’re sure everyone will join us in wishing Cailey and Carlos all the best for a lifetime of happiness!
