Maurice Benard and Laura Wright Promise “Great Stuff Coming” on GENERAL HOSPITAL!
Many fans have been growing frustrated with the current storyline on GENERAL HOSPITAL that has seen Sonny suffering from amnesia and living a new life as Mike in Nixon Falls, far away from his family and loved ones in Port Charles. While some have enjoyed watching Carly step up as a mob wife and take control in her husband’s absence, lots of viewers are eager to have the status quo restored.
Maurice Benard has tried to explain to frustrated fans that he’s been enjoying playing “Mike” and it’s been a nice change of pace from Sonny. “I can imagine people don’t like change,” he tweeted. “But after playing the same character for 28 years, I’m having a lot of fun.” And while Laura Wright (Carly) doesn’t have many scenes with him right now, she’s been happy to watch Benard stretch his acting wings by playing a new character. “I love watching you!” she enthused. “You’re a star, my friend! You make a black cowboy hat look good!”
While the actors are enjoying playing these new facets to their long-running characters, they understand the frustration of some viewers and urge them to have patience and let the storyline play out as planned. “At some point, Sonny/Mike is going to get his memory back,” Benard reminded GH fans. “And we’re gonna have a hell of a lot to play. Big time.”
Because when Mike remembers that he’s Sonny and is reunited with his family, Carly is going to be overjoyed to know that her husband isn’t really dead. But will she happily give up the newfound power she’s been enjoying? Will any of Mike’s personality remain when Sonny’s memories are restored? Plus, Nina is going to be in a lot of trouble for keeping the truth from everyone for so long! “I can’t wait!” Wright enthused. “Such great stuff coming — gotta keep the faith. This is how great stories and performances are birthed.”
So sit back, relax, and enjoy watching the story continue to unfold knowing that there are still many twists and turns on the way. The best is yet to come!
