Maurice Benard Meets John Travolta!
Gotti met Gotti when GENERAL HOSPITAL star Maurice Benard (Sonny) encountered John Travolta after a private movie screening. Both actors have played the role of real-life mobster John Gotti during their careers — Benard in the 2019 TV movie Victoria Gotti: My Father’s Daughter and Travolta in the 2018 film Gotti. And the GH star captured the incredible moment on video!
“I’ve been a fan of John Travolta since WELCOME BACK KOTTER (I don’t know who hasn’t been a fan),” Benard declared. “Then came Saturday Night Fever. Every weekend, I went to the nightclub, wearing a silk shirt, tight pants, and high-heeled shoes dancing my ass off!
“Meeting him at a private screening for a movie he was in and produced called The Shepherd was a highlight for me,” he added. “Beautiful movie.”
Currently steaming on Disney+, The Shepherd is a short film starring Ben Radcliffe as a young RAF pilot who is flying home on Christmas Eve when his plane’s radio and power cut out leaving him desperate for a miracle to survive and land safely. Travolta plays a pivotal role in the tale that we won’t spoil for you.
Based on the novella from Frederick Forsyth, The Shepherd has been produced for radio multiple times, with one production being broadcast in Canada nearly every Christmas since 1979.
Now if only we could get Travolta and Benard to team up and work together on something!
