GENERAL HOSPITAL Star Maurice Benard Mourns the Death of His Father

Tags:

Please join us in sending love to GENERAL HOSPITAL star Maurice Benard (Sonny) who is mourning the death of his father, Humberto Morales. “As I lay here with a heavy heart but no anxiety knowing I will never see my hero again,” the actor shared on Instagram on Oct. 30. “My dad was one of a kind. No one like him. Those who knew him know what I’m talking about.

“When I was a little boy, I wanted to be him,” Benard continued. “Nobody was more proud of me than my father, and boy did he love GH (not Carly and Jason as a couple!). My dad always said in Spanish, ‘What’s going to happen, it’s going to happen. Don’t worry.’ Say hi to everybody, Dad. Maybe you can even sing a song with Frank Sinatra.”

In his Instagram post, Benard shared photos of his beloved father as well as some videos. The first shows him singing along with his dad and son, Joshua, the next is Benard asking his father why he only likes Frank Sinatra, then one where Humberto declares he watches GH every day, “rain or shine.”

In the comments, Bernard’s GH co-stars and friends offered their heartfelt condolences for his loss. “Big love, my friend,” shared Laura Wright (Carly). “My thoughts and heart are with you.” Eden McCoy (Josslyn) wrote: “Oh Maurice, I’m sending you every bit of my heart right now. Love you and I’m so sorry.”

“Mo, so sorry for your loss,” said Kimberly McCullough (ex-Robin). “This has got to be so tough. I remember your dad very well. What a presence. So kind and just the right amount of spicy. Love you so much.”

“My heart absolutely breaks,” declared Lilly Melgar (ex-Lily). “Personally knowing the impact of such a loss, I cry with you. I know there is nothing I can say to soften the pain. He was incredibly charming, witty, fun, and sharp. You were a wonderful son. You had him longer than most. The memories, the laughs, and the gratitude of having him as long as you did will ease the pain in time. I love you, Mauricio. I’m here to listen, to cry, to laugh, to vent, to remember… or simply to just be. You and your family are in my prayers. Especially your mother.”

Our thoughts are with the entire Benard family during this difficult time.
