Maurice Benard Reveals the Name of the Badger in Sonny’s Office on GH!

Tags:

Observant viewers have noticed the taxidermy animal decorating Sonny’s office on GENERAL HOSPITAL, and many also know that it is a badger. While it was originally just out on the stand, it was more recently placed in a protective case. And during this year’s GH Convention, fans were asked to help come up with a name for Sonny’s “pet!”

“First of all, I want to thank everyone who suggested a name for the badger because the badger is a good friend of mine,” Maurice Benard (Sonny) declared in a video posted to the soap’s social media. “He’s never bitten me. He’s really, really like, cool and stuff. I know he looks scary, but he’s not.”

Standing outside the GH studio, Benard had in his hand a small card containing the winning response from Kayla Graves from Cleveland that was selected by the soap’s executive producer, Frank Valentini from amongst the many entries. “So here we are,” he announced. “I’m gonna reveal the name of the badger. And it is… Brutus!

“Now, I gotta tell you something,” Benard continued. “Frank picked this name and I picked Vito. Because Vito is the name of my bulldog. So you gotta give it to the boss, but I would have picked Vito. Thank you again to everybody and this is amazing.”

Of course, as some fans noted on social media, the badger didn’t really need a name because a lot of people had been calling him Bob the Badger for many years now! But whatever you call him, the animal is the perfect decoration for Sonny’s office because the mob boss can be just as dangerous when crossed. So keep watching GH and keep an eye out for Brutus! (Or Vito… or Bob… whichever you prefer!)
